IRONWORKERS LOCAL 29 JOINT APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING CENTER

 

Hiring an apprentice is done through the Pacific Northwest Ironwork and Employers JATC, not the Ironworkers Local 29 office. To start the hiring process please see below.

Ironworkers Local 29 Registered Apprentice Request Process

1.    In writing via email (to both kevinc@iw29appr.org and office@iw29appr.org) or through certified mail (11620 NE Ainsworth Circle, Portland OR 97220, ATTN: Apprentice Coordinator, Apprentice Request) contact the Apprenticeship Coordinator to express your interest in becoming a training agent who can legally train and use registered ironworker apprentices on projects in Oregon.

2.    Set up an in-person or virtual meeting with the Apprenticeship Coordinator to discuss the Local 29 participation agreement, cost of training per registered apprentice, and training standards. 

3.    Submit a signed participation agreement and in accordance with ORS 660.137 (5)(a), documentation of training records, certifications, work history, and current employees who will provide supervision to qualified apprentice(s). Additionally, a list of current jobs must be submitted to allow the Pacific NW Ironworker & Employer Joint Apprenticeship Training Council (JATC) to review the employer's qualifications to act as a training agent. A copy of the current drug and alcohol policy must also be submitted.

4.    Go before the JATC at their next regularly scheduled meeting for review of the application and demonstrate that the employer can meet the requirements outlined in the training standards for Master Agreement #1013.

5.    Submit payment for training for each apprentice you are using for the coming calendar year.

6.    Get training agent status approval from BOLI in partnership with the apprenticeship.
